Ecker Advocates for Immediate Tax Cuts for Pennsylvania Families
HARRISBURG – As Pennsylvania sits on a significant budget surplus, Rep. Torren Ecker (R-Adams/Cumberland) and fellow Republicans said providing tax cuts to working Pennsylvania families is the best use of the money.
“With families living paycheck to paycheck because of increased prices for basic necessities just to live, they need immediate relief from the pains of inflation. The surplus is the people’s money, and they deserve a refund. It is not the bureaucrats of Harrisburg who should dictate how this money is spent but rather the taxpayers themselves.
“Tax cuts contrast sharply with the House Democrats’ and Shapiro Administration’s plan to expand government spending, which would worsen Pennsylvania’s financial future. Their plan would put Pennsylvania in a terrible financial position for decades to come thanks to an even more bloated state government,” Ecker said.
House Republicans have introduced legislation identical to
Senate Bill 269, which received bipartisan support when it was approved by the Senate. The plan includes reducing the state Personal Income Tax (PIT) rate from 3.07% to 2.8% and eliminating the Gross Receipts Tax (GRT) on energy.
“The PIT reduction will bring yearly savings to families and the elimination of the GRT will result in monthly savings on energy costs. Adding more money to the wallets of Pennsylvanians will also help to spur on the economy. Tax cuts are a win for everyone,” Ecker said.
