ABBOTTSTOWN – To update residents of the 193rd Legislative District on property tax measures in the General Assembly, Rep. Torren Ecker (R-Adams/Cumberland) will hold a town hall meeting on the topic later this month.

The meeting will be held at the Hampton Fire Company, 5371 Carlisle Pike, New Oxford, on Wednesday, Oct. 9, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. The public is encouraged to attend.

“Reforming school property taxes has been an issue the General Assembly has been tackling for decades with numerous proposals put forth. However, passing legislation sadly hasn’t happened due to numerous reasons,” Ecker said. “That has not stopped legislators from continuing to seek out a viable solution to the property tax question.”

Any property tax reform would be a tax shift, meaning new taxes would be created and/or existing taxes increased to make up for revenue lost by decreased or eliminated school property taxes.

During the town hall meeting, the various property tax proposals currently being reviewed by the General Assembly will be discussed. Additionally, Rep. Frank Ryan (R-Lebanon) will provide details on his proposal to eliminate property taxes. Residents will have the opportunity share their opinions on the proposals.

Residents unable to attend the meeting can voice their opinions on property taxes, and other issues, but filling out an online survey that can be found at Ecker’s website, RepEcker.com. On the homepage, click on “your input matters” to take the survey.
