Ecker, Gleim to Host Informative Farmers’ Breakfast
November 4, 2019
HARRISBURG – To keep farmers informed of issues facing Pennsylvania’s agriculture industry, Reps. Torren Ecker (R-Adams/Cumberland) and Barb Gleim (R-Cumberland) are teaming up to host a free Farmers’ Breakfast later this month.
“Pennsylvania, and particularly our area, has a rich history of farming. Over the years, the industry has changed but one thing has remained the same – the strong commitment of our farmers,” Gleim said. “During this free event, farmers will receive an update on issues the industry is facing today to ensure it thrives for years to come.”
The breakfast, sponsored by PennAg, Seneca Resources and Energy Transfer, will be held at the Penn Township Fire Company, 1750 Pine Road, Newville, on Friday, Nov. 15, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Attendees will hear from experts on issues facing the farming industry and will be given an overview of measures the House took to help Pennsylvania agriculture grow.
“So far this session, numerous bills to improve our state’s vital industry were signed into law. Coupled with the recently enacted 2019-20 state budget, these initiatives will truly help grow the Commonwealth’s top industry,” Ecker said. “Included in the budget is an overall $19.5 million, or 12.7%, increase in our investment in agriculture.”
The new laws serve to protect the state’s food supply and animal health, and combat threats to both crops and livestock; assist farmers with the cost and expertise to further implement best management practices on their farms; support the dairy industry; educate young people about the importance of agriculture; and prepare the next generation of farmers.
