Ecker Finds Court Ruling on Elections Disturbing

ABBOTTSTOWN – In light of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court’s ruling allowing for ballots to be received and counted for up to three days following the election day deadline, among other things, Rep. Torren Ecker (R-Adams/Cumberland) issued the following statement:

“I am extremely disheartened by the court’s partisan decision to side with the Wolf administration. The court ruling further weakens the confidence of voters in the integrity of our elections.

“As someone who has been through an election that was contested well after Election Day, I was recently able to provide testimony on the importance of secure and trusted elections. By allowing voters to cast ballots up to three days after an election and the use of ballot drop boxes, it could unfairly sway close elections, especially in races where candidates are divided by a few votes.

“The residents of Pennsylvania must be able to trust that their votes are counted honestly and accurately. Every vote in every election is as important as the race in which it was cast, whether it be for president of the United States or for a seat on a local school board. I have encouraged Speaker Cutler and House leadership to pursue further legal action in federal court to ensure and re-instill electoral confidence for every voter in Pennsylvania.”
