ABBOTTSTOWN – Several community-improvement projects across Adams and Cumberland counties will receive more than $1.7 million in funding, Rep. Torren Ecker (R-Adams/Cumberland) announced.
The grant funding will be used for various projects, such as park improvements in Adams County, a culvert replacement in Cumberland County and much more. The funding is through the Local Share Account through the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA).
“These grants will have a positive impact on so many residents and will help improve the quality of life in our communities,” Ecker said. “I want to thank the CFA for recognizing the importance of these projects for our area and residents.”
The following grants were approved:
• Biglerville Borough Police Department to buy license plate readers: $25,142.
• Shippensburg University Foundation to buy equipment for the university’s chemistry, biotechnology and engineering labs: $323,381.
• Lake Mead Municipal Authority to buy grinder pumps: $239,800.
• New Oxford Borough to reconstruct Commerce Street between Hanover Street and end of Commerce Street: $317, 901.
• Penn Township Volunteer Fire Department to upgrade its communications system to new P25 portable and desktop communications equipment and accessories: $300,000.
• Reading Township to install playground equipment, benches and a pavilion: $142,218.
• Reading Township to construct a recycling building attached to a township building: $29,469.
• Possum Valley Municipal Authority to buy a work truck: $68,835.
• South Newton Township to replace four culverts: $256,849.
Projects eligible for funding from the Local Share Account through the Commonwealth Financing Authority must be in the public interest and aim to improve the quality of life of citizens in the community.
In addition, Ecker also helped secure $802,372 for Upper Adams School District toward its roof and window replacement project at Upper Adams Intermediate School. The funding is through the Public School Facility Improvement Grant Program.
