HARRISBURG – Today at the state Capitol, newly elected Rep. Torren Ecker (R-Adams/Cumberland) took the oath of office as state representative of the 193rd Legislative District during the swearing-in ceremony of the 203rd Pennsylvania General Assembly.
“It’s an honor that the citizens of the 193rd District decided to trust me to represent them after the retirement of Rep. Will Tallman,” said Ecker. “I’ll be working hard to fight for fiscally responsible leadership and government accountability in Harrisburg.”
One of Ecker’s main legislative priorities will be workforce development programs and the promotion of career and technical education in our schools. Ecker said that creating these essential apprenticeship programs will encourage students to consider an education in the various trade occupations and offer them the opportunity to graduate high school with family-sustaining incomes and careers.
Ecker graduated from George Mason University with a bachelor’s degree in government. During his time at GMU, he worked on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., for Congresswoman Jo Ann Davis. Upon graduation, he attended Thomas M. Cooley Law School. Ecker began his law practice in South Central Pennsylvania at a local private law firm representing families, veterans, farmers, seniors, nonprofits and small businesses in a wide array of legal matters in Adams and Cumberland counties. Ecker has served in many community leadership roles including the East Berlin Community Center, Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce and volunteering in the classroom at New Oxford Elementary School. He lives with his wife, Laura, and their two children, Addy and Oliver, in New Oxford in Adams County.
Ecker invites constituents to stop by his district office, which is located at 282 West King St. in Abbottstown, or to call the office at (717) 259-7805. A second office in South Middleton Township will be opening in the coming weeks.
