HARRISBURG – Rep. Torren Ecker (R-Adams/Cumberland) has been assigned to serve on five committees during the 2019-20 legislative session: Children and Youth, Game and Fisheries, Judiciary, Labor and Industry, and Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness.
“I am very pleased to be placed on committees that tackle issues relevant to our district, especially for veterans, businesses, and outdoor enthusiasts.” said Ecker. “In addition, I feel that my background as an attorney has prepared me to take on the tough issues that come up in the Judiciary and Children and Youth committees.
“Furthermore, having a seat on the Labor and Industry Committee is very exciting since I have been passionate about workforce development and job training. I am thrilled about these assignments and look forward to working together with my colleagues for the betterment of all Pennsylvanians,” said Ecker.
The House Children and Youth Committee studies adoption and child protection issues, along with daycare services, infant/child/mother health issues, juvenile delinquency, and adolescent and teen issues.
The House Game and Fisheries Committee receives and reviews annual performance and status reports from the Pennsylvania Game Commission and the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission. It also approves the setting of license fees that support each commission and addresses all legislation affecting them.
The House Judiciary Committee focuses on issues and legislation relating to the Judicial Code, the Crimes Code and the Domestic Relations Code.
The Labor and Industry Committee focuses on issues impacting jobs across the state.
The Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee also oversees legislation concerning Pennsylvania’s first responders and works to keep all Commonwealth residents safe. A key focus during this session will be the recruitment and retention of the state’s emergency responders.
