Ecker, Schemel Introduce Bills Aimed at Increasing Transparency for Lawsuits Challenging State Law

HARRISBURG – Legislation sponsored by Rep. Torren Ecker (R-Adams/Cumberland) and Rep. Paul Schemel (R-Franklin) to require that the General Assembly receive notification of cases challenging state statutes has been formally introduced. Currently, the Attorney General is the sole receiver of formal notice of lawsuits challenging the constitutionality of a state statute. The legislation also expands current law to allow either the House of Representatives or the Senate, or both, to choose to participate as parties in such lawsuits.

Ecker Says Local Fire Companies, EMS Services to Receive Grant Funding

HARRISBURG – Rep. Torren Ecker (R-Adams/Cumberland) announced today that local fire companies and EMS services in Adams and Cumberland counties will receive grants from the Office of the State Fire Commissioner. HARRISBURG – Rep. Torren Ecker (R-Adams/Cumberland) praised the House passage of legislation authored by Rep. Barry Jozwiak (R-Berks), that amends the Pennsylvania Liquor Code’s definition of “Alcoholic Cider” to be a beverage made only through alcoholic fermentation of apples or pears. Currently, the definition permits products to be made through alcoholic fermentation of any fruit or fruit juice.

A very common issue I hear from constituents is the workforce needs of employers in Adams and Cumberland counties. Employers are starving for reliable workers and are willing to train new hires to give them the skills needed for the job. However, these opportunities will be diminished with a government-mandated wage hike.
